When looking for a web host, the cheapest option isn’t necessarily the best one. For example, if you go with a shared plan, you’ll save money, but you’ll be sharing resources with everyone else on the server. That means, if there’s a spike in traffic on one site, every site on the box slows down, or maybe even crashes entirely.
If possible, we suggest you go with a VPS, which means you won’t be sharing resources with anyone else.. GoDaddy has various VPS plans, starting at $4.99/month.
A VPS will handle a fair amount of traffic, which is a good place to start, but at some point, if your site gets popular enough (which is always the goal, right) you’ll probably need to upgrade to a dedicated server. The point being, if you can afford it, you might as well start off on a dedicated box and save yourself the hassle of moving everything later. It can be a total nightmare moving sites from one server to another. Very stressful.
At GoDaddy, fully managed dedicated servers start at $234.99/month.. That means you’ll have a server admin monitoring everything for you and you’ll have 24/7 tech support.
We suggest GoDaddy because we personally use their hosting services. We wouldn’t recommend them otherwise. Also, if you purchase a hosting plan today, you’ll save up to 37% off the regular price. (Some of these discounts are first month only, others are continuous.)
At the end of the day, everyone’s needs are different. A cheap shared plan might be just what you need (maybe a high traffic site isn’t part of your strategy). In which case, click here and pay $1 for your first 30 days.
Update: Over the past year we’ve been experimenting with cloud hosting. There’s a slight learning curve, but we like how flexible it is and how quickly you can launch a new server. It’s also quite affordable. The service we recommend is DigitalOcean. We currently pay $6/month per server and this includes automated backups. Join today and you’ll receive an account credit of $100.00.
